“Brain Gain” Pilot Project Launched

Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney has launched an innovative pilot project in Ontario which encourages Canadians working abroad to bring home their skills to contribute to the Canadian economy. What this project seeks to achieve is to lay a foundation for long-term economic growth by making it easier for highly-skilled workers to come back to Canada to work.

One of the biggest struggles for these Canadians working abroad is that their non-Canadian family members have to wait a long period of time for their permanent resident permits to process in order to find work in Canada. However, as of November 22, family members of Canadian citizens have been able to get temporary work permits immediately upon arrival to Canada. Ontario’s health and academic sectors have been identified as the most appropriate sectors for the pilot project due to their labour shortages in recent years.
