Mandatory Job Match While Advertising for LMIA Applications

Canadian employers who are preparing to submit an LMIA application will be required to comply with the new advertisement requirements. Beginning August 28, 2017, an employer will be required to use the Job Match service when advertising a position on Job Bank, allowing them to see the anonymous job seekers with corresponding skills, education and experience matching the requirements identified in the job posting.  Each match will be rated based on a star system from 1 to 5 stars.  The greater number of stars received by a job seeker’s profile, the higher level of compatibility with the employer’s requirements.

For a position classified under the high-wage category, it will now be compulsory for employers advertising on Job Bank to invite any potential applicant who applies within the first 30 days and who receives a 4 or 5-star ranking, to apply for the position.

If the position advertised falls under the law-wage category, the employers are required to invite all job seekers matched within the first 30 days from posting the position to apply as long as they are rated with two or more stars.

Further, starting August 28, 2017, it becomes mandatory for all employers, regardless where they are located in Canada, to use Job Bank as the primary venue for their job advertisement, and use the provincial or territorial job boards as additional advertisement method along with other advertisement outlets.
