Monday April 14, 2014 Jews across the world along with friends and family will start the celebration of Passover. Passover is a weeklong celebration ending Tuesday April 22, 2014 where individuals of the Jewish faith commemorate their liberation from slavery.

The “Seder” (Hebrew word for order) is the ritual of Passover. It refers to the well planned and executed Passover dinner, that consist of drinking wine, bitter herbs and eating other traditional foods such as the Matza.

This holiday is also special for Holocaust survivors as a time to reflect on the tragedy they overcame, and celebrate life and restoration. While Jews celebrate Passover, Christians will also celebrate Easter. These two events are said to be connected in history as the Last Supper with Jesus and his disciples have said to have taken place at Seder.

Although, Passover is not a public holiday in Canada there will be celebrations held across Toronto, as synagogues will be open to special ceremonies and events.
