Roll Out the Red Carpet: Canadian Screen Awards set to Take the Stage

With the Oscars behind us but the award season in full swing, it is Canada’s time to shine. This Sunday, the Canadian Screen Awards are ready to take the stage in Toronto and recognize the best talent in domestic movies, digital media, and television while also celebrating the Academy’s 65th anniversary.

The event is nothing new to the country. Since 1949, the Canadian Movie Awards have been taking place in Ottawa. Years later, in 1986, the Geminis were established to acknowledge those who work on the small screen.  The two events operated separately for decades, until finally being combined under one name, along with the Genie Awards, in 2013.  At the Canadian Screen Awards, the Academy honours the most notable performances both behind the scenes and on screen in movies, digital media, and TV shows.

Much like the award shows that have been held in Hollywood, the CSA promises to be a celebrity-filled event. In the past, names like Martin Short and Eugene Levy were on the guest-list. This year is no different! Comedian Andrea Martin will be hosting the event, Kiefer Sutherland and Patrick J. Adams are set to be in attendance, and most recently, Julianne Moore was added as a presenter.

If you are curious to see who walks away a winner, and of course, the latest red carpet fashions, you can tune in to CBC this Sunday evening at 8 PM EST.   For more information about the Canadian Screen Awards, click here. (Source)
