Express Entry

Under the Express Entry system, persons who are entered into the EE profile “pool” can be issued an ITA. However, not all qualified candidates in the pool will be invited to apply.  CIC’s mandate is to choose only the top ranking candidates no matter when they were accepted into the pool, eliminating the first-come first-serve regime CIC used to facilitate.  Rounds of invitations to apply are scheduled to take place regularly over the course of each year. 15-25 draws have been announced to occur in the 2015 year.

The minimum score CIC will accept on each draw will be set periodically and on a moving scale to meet their economic immigration numbers and goals each year.  Once invited, candidates still have to meet eligibility and admissibility requirements, such as medical and criminality under IRPA.

Draws to Date:

In the inaugural draw on January 31,  2015, CIC issued 779 ITAs to candidates who held scores of 886 points or more.  This accounted for 26 per cent of an estimated 3,000 people who entered the EE pool. The second draw was made on February 7, 2015 when a further 779 applicants who had scored 818 CRS points or more were issued ITA’s.  The third draw on February 20,  2015 resulted in 849 ITAs being issued to eligible CEC candidates who held scores of 808 points or higher.

In the draws noted above, the decisive factor was securing a positive LMIA.  As stated, successful candidates were those who scored at least 800 points or more out of a maximum of 1,200. Securing a positive LMIA automatically earned applicants 600 points, while personal attributes such as education, language skills and work experience made up the other 600 possible points.

However, the two most exciting draws were recently completed on March 20, 2015 and March 27th, 2015. The first draw resulted in 1620 ITAs being issued to applicants who scored 481 points or higher.  The second draw resulted in 1637 ITAs being issued to applicants who scored 453 points or higher. These draws send a message to candidates who do not have LMIA/LMO supported arranged offers of employment, or Provincial Nominee certificate (approved under the Express Entry stream), that ITAs are a strong possibility. Post-grad workers and LMIA-exempt workers stay tuned: ITAs may be on the horizon!
