Ready for the Games: 2015 Pan Am Medals Revealed

Posted by Fabiola Arevalo - Bellissimo Law Group PC

The countdown to the Pan Am games is on! With only 18 weeks left until the July 10 start date, some may have been wondering what the winners will be awarded. The question was finally answered as the medals were presented to the public during a ceremony at the Royal Ontario Museum on Tuesday morning.  Past athletes were on hand to help with the reveal, including Curt Harnett and Elisabeth Walker-Young, who are chefs de mission for the Pan Am and Parapan Am games, respectively.

So what do the long-awaited medals look like? Made of gold, silver, and bronze sourced from three different countries, they feature a layered oval design that contains Braille text on the back, and are attached to a colourful ribbon.

However, the medals are more than an item to recognize the performance, dedication, and hard work of athletes from the Americas and Caribbean. They are also an icon of Canadian culture and domestic talent. Each one was designed and manufactured by the Royal Canadian Mint, with creative contributions by Christi Belcourt –a Métis artist.

If you want to have a closer look, the medals will be displayed at the Royal Ontario Museum from March 14-29, 2015! For more information about the Pan Am games, click here.
