Sudbury Takes Top Spot as Happiest City in Canada!

Canada may be ranked among the top in the world for life quality and satisfaction, but how do the individual cities within it fair? Recent survey numbers released by Statistics Canada just days ago examine satisfaction across some of the country’s most prominent regions.

The results may differ from what many expect. Sure, mild temperatures and scenic views such as those  found in Vancouver  can put a smile on anyone’s face, but they did not earn it a top spot. In fact, the west-coast city is listed last. More metropolitan cities including Toronto, Edmonton, and Montreal also ranked in the lower half of the scale with the number of residents rating their satisfaction at a 9 or 10 out of 10 centering around the 35% mark.

On a more positive note, one of Northern Ontario’s coldest cities ranked first –Sudbury! There, approximately 45% of residents listed their life satisfaction as a 9 or 10 out of 10! Not far behind is Thunder Bay, Sudbury’s equally cold neighbour.

It is clear to see that weather is not a determining factor, and satisfaction is dependent on more than just a climb or fall in the mercury! Instead, health, age, and employment status play a greater part and are the markers used by Statistics Canada in this particular life satisfaction survey.
