Internet for Everyone: Toronto Public Libraries & Google Will Offer WiFi

It is a well-known fact that not everyone has equal access to the internet. Though for some it is a commodity that often goes unnoticed, for others it is a luxury. In order to bridge the gap in access, Toronto’s public library system is teaming up with Google to provide take-home internet hotspots.

That’s right, gone are the days when you have to log in to a library computer. Now, people can access the world wide web from the comfort of their own home. Of course, this is great for catching up on the latest TV shows, but it also has a greater purpose. A vast majority of jobs are posted online, and having internet a click away can make the search much faster for those who otherwise would not have access.

The hot-spots will be available at six library branches, located in some of the city’s low-income areas and can be loaned for up to six months.
