School may be out for the summer, but that does not mean that learning has to come to a halt. Keep the history lessons going by exploring your own city and visiting the many interesting and significant sites that Toronto has to offer. To get you started on your tour, here are a few ideas. The best part? Many have admission fees that are very affordable and usually under $10 (so you can cross them all off your must-see list)!

Spadina Museum: As the next-door neighbour to Casa Loma, the Spadina Museum is a hidden gem nestled in one of the city’s most well-known areas. It has been dubbed as Toronto’s Downtown Abbey, and this restored 1860s mansion originally owned by the Austin family, has been redesigned to show off the opulence and lifestyle of the 1920s and 1930s. Mackenzie House: Located in the heart of downtown Toronto at 85 Bond Street, this was the house of the city’s first mayor back in the 1830s. To learn all about it, click here and head right over.

Colborne Lodge: Built near the Lakeshore by one of the founders of High Park, John Howard, this house dates back to 1837. Not only is the location picturesque, but its history is just as fascinating. Read more here.

Campbell House: The museum boasts a number of interesting features and events, including a live musical staged throughout the house, which was built in 1822. It is the oldest remaining house from the Town of York. For full details, you can visit the Campbell House’s website by clicking here.

So with your map and camera in tow, check out one or all of these historical sites in the city!
