The Invictus Games Are Here to Inspire Us All!

Toronto is the host for the Invictus Games this year and the city saw plenty of action this weekend with the track and field event taking centre stage. The games began this Sunday at the York Lions Stadium where Invictus Games founder Prince Harry spent a couple hours meeting with participants and watching the competition.

The Invictus games is a week- long competition for wounded, ill and injured military personnel and veterans. The Inaugural games where held in London in 2014, followed by the games in Orlando in 2016. This year, Toronto welcomes more than 550 competitors from across 17 countries to participate in a wide range of adaptive sport (or parasport) events which include: archery, sitting volleyball, cycling, wheelchair basketball and swimming among others. Adaptive sport closely resembles the popular sports played in the Olympics but with some modifications to the rules and equipment.

This event stands out from any other competitive sport event in the world because their participants are the true definition of warriors and survivors. The competitors are the men and women who have sacrificed their lives for their countries, put their lives on the line and faced life changing injuries. Nonetheless, they have persevered and used sport as a catalyst to their recovery. They have proven that they cannot be defeated and instead choose to be challenged to achieve new heights.
