According to an index of city rankings compiled by the Economist, Toronto has been named the 4th safest city in the world.

The index report is based on comparative data which ranks 60 cities across 49 indicators covering digital security, health security, infrastructure security and personal security.

Tokyo, Singapore and Osaka take the top three spots, while only three American cities made the top 20 with San Francisco at 15, Los Angeles at 18 and Chicago at 19.

Toronto ranks high in digital security due to its ability to curb cyber threats. Personal security also ranks high with low rates of vehicular accidents per one million inhabitants.
