Canada Deports Rwandan Citizen Linked to Genocide
The Canadian government confirmed their decision to deport a Rwandan citizen after sixteen years. The man is wanted in his native country for allegedly inciting genocide and for committing crimes against humanity.
Minister Kenney said all necessary steps had been taken to ensure Mr. Mugesera wouldn’t be tortured by current Rwandan authorities. Concern that he might face extrajudicial punishment had delayed his expulsion.
In addition, Mr. Mugesara exhausted all legal avenues in his attempts to avoid deportation. He lost two judicial battles Monday in provincial and federal courts which paved the way to his removal.
