Canada’s Future Immigration System
The Federal, Provincial, and Territorial (FPT) ministers are working together to implement the Expression of Interest (EOI) model, similar to a model currently in place in New Zealand and Australia. This EOI model will transform the Canadian immigration system into one that is faster, more flexible, and more responsive to labour market demand. The focus of this model is to advance Canada’s economic growth and competitiveness by responding to regional labour market needs.
The FPT government recognizes the significance of immigration to Canada’s long-term prosperity; hence, economic immigration programs must focus on carrying out economic benefits to Canada by meeting labour market needs and generating economic growth. “Cooperation between federal, provincial and territorial governments is key to the success of Canada’s immigration system and securing better outcomes for newcomers”said Minister Jason Kenney.
Along with the EOI model, the FPT ministers are committed to a three-year Action Plan to create an immigration system that attracts, welcomes, and supports newcomers in Canada. There are also ongoing efforts to help immigrants participate and contribute to the Canadian economy and society to maximize their potential.
