Changes to Skilled Worker Requirements
The Canadian Bar Association charged that changes made to the application process by Immigration Minister Jason Kenney are abusive. Those who are applying under the Federal Skilled Worker program are now required to complete the standardized language proficiency test in order for their application to be processed. A spokesperson for the bar association believes this violates the rights of applicants to provide sufficient documentation of their language capabilities.
This change has the potential to affect tens of thousands of skilled immigrants. The last time this change was attempted in 2008, the same revision was scrapped because of a backlash from the community and the public.
