CIC Sets Up Citizenship Fraud Tip Line
Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) is now offering a new tip line where immigration cases suspected to be fraudulent can be reported to its various call centres. To date, there are approximately 2000 people from 100 countries who have obtained citizenship fraudulently.
Citizenship, Immigration, and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney announced this news on September 8, 2011, in Ottawa. As quoted by Minister Kenney, “Canadian citizenship is not for sale. I encourage anyone who has information regarding citizenship fraud to call our tip line,”
The tip line is accessible to people in Canada and overseas. For those who are residing in Canada, the CIC Call Centre can be reached at 1-888-242-2100. Those who are overseas will need to contact their nearest Canadian visa office. Issues which should be reported to the call centre: false representation, fraud or intentionally hiding material circumstances at any stage of the citizenship process.
CIC is taking steps to revoke citizenship from those individuals who have obtained it fraudulently.
