This week Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney met with some of the families assisted by Operation Stork, the special initiative to unite Haitian children with their adoptive parents.
The initiative brought 203 Haitian children to Canada in the wake of last year’s earthquake. Since then 152 of these children have become permanent residents or citizens of the country. CIC continues to work towards finalizing the status of the remaining children. In addition, as of December 31, 2010, CIC has reunited 2,500 families, approved over 3,600 permanent resident applications and granted temporary entry to over 3,000 Haitians.
Minister Kenney also took the opportunity to thank the partners who have helped and supported the initiative as well as reiterate the government’s commitment to reuniting families affected by the devastating quake.
