Private Sponsorship of Refugees
Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney is meeting with community groups across the country and encouraging them to sponsor refugees to come to Canada.
Groups who choose to sponsor refugees commit to providing assistance for one year or until the refugees can support themselves financially. Although the assistance includes physical needs such as accommodation and food, it also goes beyond that to include emotional support as well.
Through the Private Sponsorship of Refugees Program, Canada has welcomed over 200,000 refugees from all over the world.
“I am proud that Canada has one of the world’s largest refugee resettlement programs. It reflects Canadians’ long-standing humanitarian tradition of offering protection to the displaced and persecuted,” – Minister Jason Kenney
