With two games remaining, either Toronto or Edmonton will take last place. Despite this fact, Torontonians are expressing their sheer optimism for the team’s future organizations. Why you may ask? Well, by finishing in last, or nearly last, The Toronto Maple leafs have bolstered their chances of landing the first overall pick in the next draft, which has not occurred since 1985!

So, although Toronto may be at the bottom of the NHL standing this season , as the saying goes: “There’s nowhere but up from here!”

The Marlies are currently sitting at the top of the Eastern Conference, with 32 wins and only 8  losses (the fewest in the league)! With numbers like these, the team is sure to enjoy a successful play-off run, but only time will tell how they will perform.

In 2015, the Toronto Blue Jays, the only Canadian baseball team in the MLB, played their first playoff game in 22 years. This was a tremendously thrilling moment in 2015 as well as in Canadian history! It was recently announced that in honour of this, the Jays have been named the 2015 Canadian Press Team of the Year!

Along with this fantastic news comes an update regarding the Montreal Canadiens who took on the Boston Bruins at the 2016 Winter Classic. The Canadiens ended the Gillette Stadium-hosted game with a 5-1 win, with goals from David Desharnais, Paul Bryon (two), Brendan Gallagher and Max Pacioretty.

What an exciting first four days of 2016, we cannot wait to see what else is in store for the New Year, considering so much has happened already!

What can be more thrilling than welcoming the New Year with the Winter Classic, you may ask? The answer: knowing that Canada’s own, Montreal Canadiens, will be taking on the Boston Bruins, which is sure to be an interesting and intense game!

The 2016 Winter Classic will be hosted at the Gillette Stadium, home to the NFL’s (National Football League) New England Patriots, in Massachusetts. The commencement of the ice rink construction is well underway, by this afternoon the pans and boards will be in place! The Toronto Maple Leafs have laced their skates up and taped their hockey sticks. Join the Leafs back in action with the first puck drop of the 2015/2016 season, on October 7^th at 7:00PM. The Air Canada Centre will be hosting the season opener for the Toronto Maple Leafs who will be facing the Montreal Canadiens. Go Leafs Go!
