]]> Reading possesses the power to transport us to another time, another place, and makes us feel like we have become part of another world. Whether we leaf through the pages of a book during the morning commute, or while by the beach, the stories are penned to make us think, fill us with emotion, and explore important issues. This is what CBC’s Canada Reads 2015 aims to celebrate.

Presented as a  debate from March 16th to the 19th, the event will have notable Canadians defend books by domestic authors. Each day, those on the panel will get a chance to make a case, and explain why their choice should be selected as a winner.

Canada Reads is currently in its 14th season, and promises to be as exciting as those in the past. This year’s panel includes celebrity blogger and The Social co-host Elaine “Lainey” Lui, as well as Free the Children founder, Craig Kielburger. The full list of defenders and contenders is as follows:

  1. Cameron Bailey: Ru by Kim Thúy, translated by Sheila Fischman
  2. Kristin Kreuk: Intolerable by Kamal Al-Solaylee
  3. Craig Kielburger: The Inconvenient Indian by Thomas King
  4. Elaine “Lainey” Lui: When Everything Feels like the Movies by Raziel Reid
  5. Martha Wainwright: And the Birds Rained Down by Jocelyne Saucier, translated by Rhonda Mullins

Besides sparking viewers’ passion for reading, Canada Reads will also allow those across the nation and around the world to discover and appreciate Canadian literature. Tune in to CBC throughout the four-day event to see which book will take the top prize!
