The North American tradition of Groundhog Day has been taking place for over a century. As the Folklore has it, if the groundhog sees its shadow when it emerges from its burrow on Groundhog Day, there will be six more weeks of winter. If the groundhog doesn’t see its shadow, then tradition says spring is on the way.

Although historical evidence remains quite ambiguous, most people believe that April Fools dates back to the late 1500s, in relation to a calendar error. When the Julian calendar was changed to the Gregorian calendar, the New Year was moved from April 1^st to January 1^st. Those who did not hear about the change, and kept following the old dates, were labelled as fools (hence the name)!
