6 Months and Done. Is The Threshold for Deportation Too Low?

Mario D. Bellissimo was featured in a Lawyers Weekly article, written by Kim Arnott. The article discusses the dilemmas associated with the 2013 Faster Removal of Foreign Criminals Act, specifically for the convicted offender, and the appellate courts.  As of June 2013, the Act outlines how any immigrant in Canada who is sentenced to six months or longer, regardless of their duration in the country, can be removed without the right to appeal. As quoted by Mario D. Bellissimo, “now the (Court of Appeal) is dealing with what, in [his] view, is an artificially low threshold”
