Finding an Alternative to an LMIA: A Three-Year Work Permit Success
A client retained our firm to explore options for extending her stay and continuing to work in Canada, as her Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) was nearing expiry. Her employer was willing to support her. While a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is often the most common pathway in these circumstances, our legal team conducted a thorough assessment of the client’s situation and identified a potential LMIA-exempt work permit option under an international free trade agreement.
We carefully reviewed her qualifications to confirm that she met the program requirements, worked closely with both the client and her employer throughout the process, and prepared a comprehensive application package with detailed legal submissions supporting her eligibility.
The work permit was approved in just one month and issued for a three-year validity period. We are delighted to have helped our client continue her career in Canada while strengthening her pathway to permanent residence.
