Biometrics now required for citizens of Colombia, Haiti and Jamaica

As of September 4, 2013, it is required that biometrics be provided from citizens of Colombia, Haiti and Jamaica between the ages of 14 and 79 who are applying for Canadian visitor visas, study permits or work permits. An $85 CAD biometrics fee was also introduced.

Biometrics can be taken at visa application centres (VAC) at the same time when submitting applications. In the U.S. there are 135 biometric points of service and elsewhere throughout Europe, Africa, Middle East, Asia and the Americas, there are more than 130 biometric points located in VACs.

29 countries and 1 territory have been affected to date:

  • September 4, 2013: Columbia, Haiti, and Jamaica
  • October 23, 2013: Albania, Algeria, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Libya, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, and Tunisia
  • December 11, 2013: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Burma (Myanmar), Cambodia, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Laos, Lebanon, Pakistan, Palestinian Authority, Sri Lanka, Syria, Vietnam, and Yemen
