Conservative Government Appeals Court Decision on Refugee Health Care
According to a recent news release by the Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers (CARL), the Conservative Government has challenged the Federal Court’s decision on refugee health care to the Federal Court of Appeal. On July 4, Justice Mactavish from the Federal Court considered the cuts to refugee health care “cruel and unusual treatment”, thereby violating section 12 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The court also considered the health cuts “inequitable and discriminatory” and breach the Charter’s section 15 equality guarantee. Click here to read the full news release.
