Family Class Immigration on the Rise

Posted by admin - Bellissimo Law Group PC

Minister Jason Kenney announced today that during 2012 there was a 15 percent increase in family class immigration which included a 60 percent increase in the admission of parents and grandparents.  Furthermore, these figures are specific to the family class and do not include those family members who have immigrated until another program.

Under the Action Plan for Faster Family Reunification, the parents and grandparents backlog will have been reduced by roughly 50% and wait times significantly less, at about half the time.  Without the plan in place, expectations for the backlog were over 250,000 applications with a 15-year wait time by 2015.

The recently introduced Super Visa has been popular for immigrants looking to reunite with their families without immigrating permanently to the country.  Over 1,000 Super Visas have been issued on average each month with an extremely high approval of almost 90%.
