Super Visas for Parents and Grandparents

Due to the two year moratorium which has beenplaced on new parent and grandparents sponsorships to alleviate the currentbacklog, the government has created a new “Parent and Grandparent Super-Visa”which comes into effect on December 1, 2011. The multiple-entry visa is validfor up to ten years and allows applicants to remain in Canada for up to twoyears without needing to renew their status. The visa take eight weeks onaverage to be issued and applicants are required to obtain private Canadianhealth insurance for the duration of their stay.  Additional features include:
  • Applicants need to undergo medicals and families still need tomeet LICO
  • CIC does not want a huge uptake on H&C; andasylum claims or the program will likely be cancelled
  • Visas applies to all persons even from visaexempt countries
  • No fee for applicants from visa exemptcountries
  • No one is excluded from applying but still must meet admissibility requirements like needfor ARCs
